The Strawberry Rhubarb Soother came out of visiting a local distillery, engaged in some sampling, bought a bottle, and returned home inspired. I still had a bevy of fresh strawberries from my visit to Wabi Sabi Farm for my Strawberry Lemonade Ice Box Cake, and decided to put those little gems to great use. I wanted something somewhere in between a slush and a tea....and it needed to incorporate a handful of the basil growing rampant in my porch pots just now. The experiment began, and pretty immediately, I'd concocted the Strawberry Rhubarb Soother.
Ingredients for a Strawberry Rhubarb Soother
Makes One Soother
3 ounces Fresh Strawberries, puréed and pushed thru a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds (best if chilled)
3 Ounces Club Soda, chilled
1 ounce Striped Pig Distillery White Rum
1 ounce Art In The Age Rhubarb Spirits
Fresh Lime juice for muddling and lime slices for garnish
Fresh basil leaves for muddling and basil leaves for garnish
A few extra strawberries for muddling and for garnish
The Method
In the bottom of a tall glass, muddle fresh, whole basil leaves, one or two, along with fresh squeezed lime juice and a strawberry.
Fill a shaker with ice. To the shaker, add Striped Pig Distillery White Rum, Art In The Age Rhubarb Spirits, and pureed strawberries. Shake very well. Pour into glass with muddled fruit. Top with club soda to top. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, lime slices, and strawberries.
Enjoy!
