Homemade Chicken and Dumplings


This richly flavored, old-fashioned chicken stew, cooked low and slow, features tender dumplings in a gentle simmer.

Take an 8-inch piece of kitchen twine and tie together several sprigs each of fresh thyme and parsley to form a bouquet garni. This will be used to infuse the stew with flavor.

In a large Dutch oven melt some salted butter over medium-high heat. Wait until the butter has fully melted and is starting to bubble before reducing heat slightly.

Add some chopped sweet onion, carrots, and diced celery to the pot.

Stir the vegetables and cook them for about 5 minutes or until they soften and wilt.

After adding garlic, milk, stock, and chicken to the pot, tie the bouquet garni to the pot handle and submerge it with a spoon for a long simmer!
