Ingredients for A Blackberry Rosemary Vodka & Soda
1cupfresh, very ripe blackberriesfrozen may be substituted
1sprig fresh rosemary, plus more for garnish
1/4cupsugar
1/2cupwater
1 1/2ouncesfloral or citrus-flavored vodkaI am using Kettle One Grapefruit & Rose
1/2ouncefreshly squeezed lime juice
3 1/2ouncesseltzer
Instructions
The Method
Muddle blackberries, rosemary, and sugar in a small saucepan until almost smooth. Add water and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring occasionally, until fragrant, about 5 minutes.
Set a swath of cheesecloth in a colander over a heatproof bowl. Strain the mixture into the cheesecloth, pressing on the solids to extract as much juice as possible. Refrigerate until cool, about 30 minutes.
Once syrup has cooled, transfer to a small carafe or beaker.
Combine 1 ounce of the syrup and the 1/2 ounce lime juice in a glass. Next, add the vodka. Add fresh ice cubes and top with seltzer. Garnish with more rosemary and a whole single blackberry, if desired.
