This EASY five ingredient Honey Mustamaise recipe is the perfect sauce for dipping, but can double as a salad dressing, or in my case, as the perfect go-to condiment for a colossal California club sandwich. If you plan to go to the trouble of building the perfect salad or sandwich, why not then take the extra time to reach for more than just the mayo?
I take my condiments seriously, especially when I find something worthy of a double dip such as my Pub Sauce. If you plan to go to the trouble of building the perfect salad or sandwich, why not then take the extra time to reach for more than just the mayo? Okay, it may seem silly to focus on something as trivial as dressings or condiments, but when that turkey and avocado club on sourdough comes together, trust me when I profess the homemade Honey Mustamaise is going to glue it all together with a honneyed creaminess unlike that of plain old mayo. Versatility lies in that it can be made thicker or thinner based on what it will be used for and keeps for weeks in the refrigerator covered. If you require more mustard flavor than a prepared mustard delivers, experiment with dry mustard in combination with prepared.
Honey Mustamaise, Not Just A Chicken Nugget Sauce
Grilling tonight? Here is a sauce which works perfect as a baste for chicken breasts on the grill.
As an alternative to Ranch, Honey Mustamaise is absurdly wonderful served with raw vegetable crudité.
Not so plain mashed potatoes when a dollop or three of Honey Mustamaise is added for a pop of flavor.
By simply adding a little additional vinegar to thin it out, this is by far the BEST salad dressing.
Brushed on cooked carrots, this lends an almost umami flavor profile.
Have fish? Spoon onto salmon or Swordfish before baking and again just before cooking is complete.
INGREDIENTS FOR HONEY MUSTAMAISE
1/3 cup Dijon mustard or whole grain mustard or a combination of both!
¼ cup honey
¼ to ½ cup mayonnaise
1 to 2 teaspoons white vinegar
A pinch or three of cayenne pepper
Whisk all ingredients in a small mixing bowl or glass measuring cup. Using the back of a spoon to gauge consistency, if you desire a thicker base for use as a baste or spread, add additional mayonnaise and mustard. If you desire a thinner base to use as a salad dressing or glaze, increase the white vinegar. Taste as you go and adjust accordingly.
